Evangelia’s Journey
Artwork inspired by life’s experiences
My name is Evangelia.
I was born in Fodele, a little village in Crete, Greece in the year of 1943.
My background in art goes as far back as 1969, which marks the foundation of my dedication and appreciation for art. In 1969, I enrolled in St George Williams University, also known as Concordia University, in Montréal Canada.
In 1991 I discovered iconography and I have worked with it since then. My work also includes Byzantine iconography (art) for churches in Greece and Canada.
In addition, I have learned and practiced many types of art over the years i.e, wood carving, wood burning, engraving, painting, collage, mosaic, portrait, landscape and still life; but my main focus for some time has been landscapes and iconography as mentioned above. My strength in painting is the mastery of color and light that I give to each of my creations to enhance the true beauty of the art itself.
I have held, as well as participated in, many art shows and exhibitions in Greece, Canada and USA.
I have travelled through Europe and North America, which afforded me to come across various types and styles of art; my aspiration for painting comes mainly from nature itself, flowers and landscapes, and the colours and lighting that each day brings.
Every time I begin to do an icon, I pray and I ask to bless whatever I am working on. Thus, every icon is blessed with prayers, and I believe there will be a blessing for every home that each icon will go to!
